FOSSILIS

The word "Fossil", from the Latin fossilis, refers to the traces or remains of plants or animals found in Earth's layers predating the current geological period. Based on this concept, I formally employ an archaeological language applied to contemporary elements. In these archaeological narratives, I give shape to the invisible, making it visible—two sides of the same reality, seeking to reveal and bring awareness to what remains unseen.

The hand, static, becomes “sacralized”—a timeless representation of the tool, of our evolution.

It reflects the way we act, think, exist, and create.

A public sculpture made for the Oeiras municipal garden. A dynamic and engaging sculpture, accompanying the field lines of archaeological research, was born around some old concrete shoes I found that revealed more about its place's history.

(Des) Enquadrado

The remaining foundations of a structure were once removed from an old playground. I simplified my sculpture, aiming to create a structure, adopting a construction language similar to a playground one.

I created a dialogue between the artwork, the lines of the earth´s layers, and the division of the land, like an archaeological exploration. The varying heights and directions of the structure invite interaction, allowing each person to become part of the sculpture.

The foundations serve as a starting point and context for the artwork, connecting the site´s past to the present artistic intervention.
